Welcome to Baby Sitting Survival
Baby sitting isn’t what it once was…where you go over the parents’ house, they have already put the kids to bed and you’re there to make sure nothing happens while they’re out to dinner, a party, a concert. Those days are well over.
With so many two-income families where both parents work and many single-parent households, you may be the go-to resource for the kids, depending on their ages. You need to be well equipped and ready to interact, engage, play, entertain, clean up, intervene, discipline…and perhaps even drive to and from play dates, pick up a child from daycare or middle school, cook (or at least heat up), bathe, and put the little ones to bed. This takes a lot of work, which is why you need to have the skill sets, patience, and really the passion to take on the role of baby sitter.
What’s more, you can positively influence a child’s life, especially if you’re there day in and day out. And, although you are not replacing a parent by any means, you are helping to shape the child by setting an example. The way in which you discipline, the love you show, the time you spend with a child is really important.
Today’s babysitter is not yesterday’s “Alice”, which is why we’re providing you with survival techniques and tips to help you in that role. Whether you’re a high school student babysitting after school until a parent comes home, a college student home for the summer and looking to make some extra money watching the neighbor’s kids, an au pair, or doing this after you’ve raised your own kids, you can use some guidance. We’ll cover the gamut – from taking care of babies to those terrible twos on up.
It can be a jungle out but you got Baby Sitting Survival to guide you.
